How to reconstitute lyophilized research peptides

Updated October 2026

Lyophilized peptides arrive as a freeze-dried powder and are dissolved ("reconstituted") in the lab before use. Here is the standard, careful protocol.

What you need

  • The lyophilized peptide vial (brought to room temperature)
  • Reconstitution solvent — bacteriostatic or sterile water
  • A sterile syringe for transferring solvent
  • An alcohol wipe for the vial stopper

The protocol

1. Let both vials reach room temperature to avoid condensation. 2. Wipe each rubber stopper with alcohol. 3. Draw your chosen volume of solvent. 4. Insert the needle at an angle and let the solvent run slowly down the inside wall of the peptide vial — never inject the stream directly onto the powder, which can denature peptide. 5. Do not shake; gently swirl or let it dissolve on its own. The solution should go clear.

Concentration math

Concentration = peptide mass ÷ solvent volume. For example, a 10 mg peptide reconstituted with 2 mL of water gives 5 mg/mL. Our product pages include a reconstitution calculator that does this for you.

After reconstitution

Store the reconstituted solution refrigerated (2-8°C), protected from light, and use within the window appropriate to the compound. See our storage guide. For laboratory research use only.
