How to store research peptides
Updated October 2026
Peptide stability depends almost entirely on how it's stored. The rules differ before and after reconstitution.
Lyophilized (powder) storage
In freeze-dried form, most research peptides are highly stable. Standard practice is to store lyophilized vials at -20°C, protected from light and moisture. In this state many compounds remain stable for long periods.
Reconstituted (solution) storage
Once dissolved, peptides are far more fragile. Keep reconstituted solutions refrigerated at 2-8°C, protected from light, and avoid repeated freeze-thaw cycles, which degrade peptide. Use within the window appropriate to the compound.
General rules
- Cold and dark preserves peptide; heat and light degrade it
- Don't shake — mechanical stress can denature some peptides
- Label reconstituted vials with the date prepared
